Infrastructure 2008May 15, 20087:15 am – 9:00 am
Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive Advantage is the second of the Urban Land Institute's annual reports on international infrastructure. While last year's report examined broad issues facing countries and regions globally; this year's update focuses the importance of infrastructure to a city or a country's economic competitiveness. Globally, the report looks at Western Europe, Asia, and North America with special attention paid to fast growing urban regions in China and United Arab Emirates. Domestically, ULI commissioned research on 23 metropolitan areas to determine whether their long range plans are capable of accommodating the large population increases expected over the next 30 years. The results are varied but several patterns have emerged. This year's report also continues to examine issues related to the funding of infrastructure. The funding issue will become increasingly important as the United States heads towards the next iteration of the Highway Trust Fund. Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive Advantage will be released in early May at ULI's Spring meeting in Dallas.
